Cloth diapering has changed drastically over the years. The days of plastic pants and pins have been replaced with many more convenient (and cute) options for parents looking to make an environmentally and economically friendly decision for their baby. Here are just a few reasons to choose cloth diapering for your baby:
- Cloth diapers are better for the environment. Today’s modern, efficient washing machines use less water in your diaper washing regimen, which means less water usage when compared to the manufacturing of disposable diapers. Unlike disposable diapers, they will not be creating non-biodegradable waste in a landfill in addition to waste created in the manufacturing process. The Petite Seat strives to use organic materials in diaper construction that are easier on our environment.
- Cloth Diapers are economical. When compared to the thousands of dollars spent on disposable diapers from birth to potty learning, a good cloth diaper collection will average $150-$350 and with proper care can be used with multiple and subsequent children.
- Potty learning is easier and happens sooner. Cloth diapers do not contain polyacrylate gel, which is a chemical found is disposables, and therefore your child is able to feel the sensation of being wet. They are better able to understand what their body is doing and the process of potty learning goes more smoothly.
- No chemicals on baby’s skin. Disposable diapers contain many toxins and pollutants as a by-product of the manufacturing process. One of those is Dioxin, which is a well known carcinogenic used in the paper bleaching process. Disposable diapers also contain Tributyl-tin, a toxin known to cause hormonal problems in humans and animals. It is unknown what the long term effects of Polyacrylate gel are, which is used in disposables to absorb moisture, but it is suspected of exacerbating and sometimes even causing asthma. Cloth diapers avoid the use of chemicals and toxins against your baby’s sensitive skin.
- Cloth diapers are attractive and made of luxury materials. Parents can choose from a wide variety of styles, colors, and fabrics to best match the needs of their baby. My goal at The Petite Seat is to create a diaper you’ll feel good about putting on your baby as well as showing off to friends and family.
